Matt: "I think there are not so many bands anymore around trying to play this blusey hardrock. The old heroes have gone and now some young guys are playing this kind of music again. That´s fine, but they often don´t know how to play blues anymore. We play music for a long time, but the Angelsharkx were just recently, in 2017, founded by Jazzmine and me as a straight alternative hard rock / classic rock and rock'n roll band. But we also have an own approach. Okay, the sound is grounded on oldschool hardrock, but we want to play it with a 21. century attitude and are working hard to develop our own style. And we wrote several songs that way, while some are traditional. We like this mixture"

INTERVIEW ORKUS No 1 2020: Das Berliner Duo Angelsharkx zelebriert auf „Nevermind the Helldogs“ klassischen Rock mit schmackhaften Blues-Einflüssen.

O: „She’s Just a Ghost“ sticht musikalisch ein wenig heraus, auch der Titel klingt lyrisch.

Ruhe in Frieden. Marc Halupczok

„I really didn´t heard such an honest, mystic, real and heavy new Rock´n Roll band for a long time! On the first sight the Angelsharkx sound as if they were transported into 2019 from the past. But there is a lot of new energy and they got an own way to write songs. Their sound is based on great 70s bands from the UK and US without getting lost in it. The Angelsharkx, strange enough, come from Berlin and Baghdad with a cosmopolitan strong vocal duo and powerful heavy-blues riffs. Matt is a shouter and the combination with Jazzmine´s voice matches perfectly. As a guitarplayer I am really impressed by the guitarplay. This band is real, alternative, true and far away from stupid party rock, because they have strong themes and dark stories. Rock´n Roll ain´t dead already! Thumbs up.“

Interview Angelsharkx 2019

1. Is it true that your name is associated with a shark attack?
Jazzmine: „Yes. December 2017 we just were working hard on our other band BC and
recorded the album „Taken by surprise“ (released by supermusic) and had a few days off
and flew to the Canarian Islands. It was the second day and Matt was swimming far out and
I didn´t even see him. But this is normal cause he always likes to swim far offshore even if
the sea is angry. But he is a good swimmer and the weather was very good. After about half
an hour I saw him coming back and I thought everything is o.k. But then I saw him running
and bleeding at his leg.“
Matt:“I was swimming far outside like I did many times before in the Atlantic or the Baltic
Sea. I never heard of a shark attack at the Canarian Islands until 2016 where a woman has
been attacked, but experts told this never should happen the next 30 years. But when I was
swimming back to the small beach I suddenly felt a sharp hurt at my chest and rolled to the
side. I looked down in the water and saw a really ugly wide open face. I didn´t knew what to
do and pushed him gently away and the shark disappeard in the deep water.“
Jazzmine: Then we drove to the hospital. They said he had luck because the bite wounds
were close beside Matt´s „best friend“ haha.“
Matt: „The doc smiled at me and just said: „Oh, you obviously had great luck senior“. In the
hospitals documentary it´s called injuries by a small fish.
Jazzmine: „They told us that sharks use to take a soft test bite at first to find out if the food
is going to taste well.“
Matt: „Obviously I don´t taste good. The shark wasn´t really interested.“
Jazzmine: „We looked at many pictures to find out what kind of shark it could have been.
The mouth Matt saw was most likely an Angelskarkx face, but maybe it was a Nun shark.
Both have small teeth. Nevertheless it is very unusual to get attacked at the Canarian Islands
but they have even seen White sharks out there in deep water. So, everything is possible.“

2. Is your music also has a shark character? ;)Matt: „When the shock had settled we
thought, oh f***, what good name for the band. Funny, dangerous and aggressive. Like it
was send from heaven … or straight out of hell. “
Jazzmine: „Yeah, we thought, why don´t make the best of it and take the name for the new
band we want to establish. It´s about power. It´s about aggression. It´s about attack. And it´s
about: Oh damned – life can be over very soon. And it´s about surviving with humor in bad
situations. The doc said, a lot of people drown because of the shock and then more and more
sharks would come. It´s about keeping things cool even in tricky situations. So it´s a perfect
name for a Rock´n Roll band – for our new band.“
Matt: „We played the first gigs and worked hard because it was great fun developing the
new material and then we had in our opinion really strong songs and played them with some
friends on the first small gigs and people were enthusiastic. We have been on many stages
making many kinds of music and we soon found out that 70s hardrock or rock´n roll is the
basis, the mastermind. It´s the music I was playing in the beginning and propably will play
up to the grave. We never stopped playing RR cause there is only one direction – forward
and it felt like coming home to play music with such a huge power – it´s not Heavy Metal –
not Prog Rock – just search and destroy. Sharp like a sharkbite. Haha.“

3. You are currently working on the album. What has already been done and what
is before you?Jazzmine: „A lot of „good“ musicians sometimes don´t like Rock´n Roll
like ACDC because they think its boring and simple. But that is often a musicians point of
view. We also like Frank Zappa, King Crimson and so called „better“ rock, but when it
comes to blues or rock´n Roll it´s music straight fom the heart. Every guitarplayer wants to
play like Hendrix or Satriani but the people and we. too. want to be entertained and like
songs with a powerful chorus you can sing with. We have made many progressive songs,
Jazzrock and Prog Rock, Funk and Soul on a professional level to survive as musicians. But
one day we watched an old video with Bon Scott of ACDC and thought, that that is what its
all about. Rock´n Roll is no usual concert. It shoud be like a steamtrain going straight
forward as hell. It only stopps when the concert is over. The most impressing thing is the
raw power and that it´s almost impossible not to get up immediatley and rock to the music.
Then we talked and liked the idea more and more: What about a band also with their roots in
70s Hardrock but hard, loud– sharp – strong – almost no ballads – just two hours of power.
And then came the songs and we were surprised, how good they worked and how hard it is
to generate the power we felt they have. And then we thought: Fuck, there are not many
professional bands out there anymore playing hard rock´n roll on an real and full-of-energy
level.“

4. Who will be interested in this album? What kind of a listener should check
your music?Jazzmine: „Everybody who loves powerful or hard music. Maybe a metalhead
who sometimes likes to listen to hard rock´n roll. Maybe a blues or 70s fan - someone who
wants to feel the energy, driving on his or her bike or in his car – turning on the radio. Young
people who want to hear a powerful band inspired by the 70s. People who like guitarsolos.
It´s a shame that Matt is still not so famous as he deserves. He is one of the best guitarplayer
I have ever seen. Thats the truth. I saw Matt in the 90s with a great version of Hendrix
Voodo chile and I was exhausted. Years later we worked together in an international band
but today I have to say – Matt is a rocker. He played jazz, blues and funk but once he is on
stage he reminds me a berserk – and he is a good songwriter. So, if you love RR and 70s
hardrock with an own unique style – if you don´t like posers and plastic music, techno or
hiphop, – there is a good chance that you also like Angelsharkx.

5. When are you planning to premiere?Jazzmine: „Well, Matt is actually working hard
on creating a sharkly sound and that will take the time it needs. Considered realistically we
will premiere in autumn 2019 and a tour will follow by the end of 2019 or in spring 2020.
We had a few club gigs and now we are working on the last songs. But in the meantime we
will previews on youtube and we have a good live version of Hells Bells, a tribute to ACDC,
which is fantatstic performed by Matt. I think the fans should hear it to get an idea what is
comming soon.“

6. Will you publish this album by yourself or with the help of a record label?Matt:
„ One of the good things of today is that it is possible to work as professional musicians
without a huge company. I have worked with famous rappers in Germany and get in contact
with big record companies and a hard rock´n roll band from Germany isn´t exactly what
they are looking for. It don´t looks like a big deal to them until you have success and then
you don´t need them anymore. Every Hardrock or Metalband has to build a fanbase on their
own at first to get attention. And when you come to the point, that you don´t need one
anymore they come knocking at your door. But we are working with a record label for the
distribution of CDs and online and the album of Backyard Conspiracy can of course be
ordered world wide by amazon and i-tunes spotifay and so on. And we are working with a
promotion agency in Germany that has always done jobs for Metallica and ACDC. Hanging
around and waiting isn´t our style. So we started to do it by ourselves, yes, with the help of
the good resonance to our music from listeners and review writers. We are open for any
cooperation – but we won´t make compromosises anymore cause we know what we want
and what the audience we shooting at wants to hear. No posers – no hair metal – fu**ing
Rock´n Roll.

7. Where Polish listeners can check your current work?Jazzmine: „Just listen on
youtube and looking for Angelsharkx or spotify or i-tunes. We have just released two songs,
but as I mentioned a cover version of Hells Bells will follow soon and maybe we will
produce a teaser for the album soon. So please, visit us on youtube or facebook, give us a
like or whatever. Write us why you like rock´n roll, what you think about our music or if you
maybe play also in a band doing similar stuff. We want connect with people, especially in
Germany and Poland. With music-business people, musicians and fans“.

8. Have you ever played a concert in Poland? No. Just litlle gigs with friends but we are
planning to come to Poland when the album has been released. We have been to a
Motorcycle Music Festival in Poland in 2016. There we developed the idea to play in
Poland/ tour through Poland. So, maybe this interviews help to connect with polish
musicians and rock´n roll fans.

9. Do you plan to play in our country after the release of the album?JAs I mentioned
we already have done severeal gigs but now we are working hard to get the album ready and
then we plan a tour through Germany and, hopefully, some gigs or a little tour in Poland and
other countries in Europe. It would be of course a great pleasure to play in Poland and let the
hell loose. Music is a fantastic thing, it doesn´t need a common language, just needs the will
to make it powerfull and people, who want to sing and shout out this kind of music.

10. Thank you for the interview and we are waiting for you!
Jazzmine: „You are
welcome. We like Poland. We also like polish rockers and would love to play rock´n roll for
you. We won´t back down. We wanna thank you kindly for the interview! ;-)
